Board Ratifies Local Agreements with Catholic Elementary and Secondary Teachers’ Associations

The Board of Trustees has ratified local agreements with the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA), which represents elementary and secondary school teachers in the province.  Trustees voted in favour of the agreements at a Special Board Meeting on July 7, 2020.  Both local agreements were overwhelmingly ratified by the elementary and secondary association memberships in online voting last week.

A provincial agreement with OECTA was reached in March 2020 and local bargaining began in June.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, negotiations were held virtually through teleconferences, rather than face-to-face meetings.

“I want to congratulate our Executive Manager of Human Resource Services, James Duff, for leading the Board’s negotiations with our teachers’ associations,” says John Van Heck, Chair of the Board.  “We are pleased that we were able to bring these talks to a successful conclusion in these uncertain times.”

“Our constructive relationship with the leadership of our teachers’ associations has helped to carry us through this unusual process,” says Deb Crawford, Director of Education.  “Congratulations to James and to Wayne Bechard and Chad Coene, the presidents of OECTA elementary and secondary.”

The OECTA contracts run through August 31, 2022.

St. Clair Catholic is still working towards local agreements with two other bargaining groups – the Association of Professional Student Services Personnel (APSSP) and OECTA Occasional teachers.
