New Home For French Immersion in Chatham

Work is Underway at Former Our Lady of Fatima Site

Another exciting project is underway at St. Clair Catholic.  Work to refurbish and upgrade the former Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School site is proceeding on schedule.  The school will be the new home to French Immersion in Chatham, when Monsignor Uyen moves to the Baldoon Road site for classes beginning in September 2021.

“It is exciting to see this project moving forward,” says Deb Crawford, Director of Education.  “We’re making good progress and will be bringing regular updates to the Monsignor Uyen community, as the work progresses over the next several months.”

Demolition of old sections of the school to make way for a new atrium entrance and enlarged gym at the front of the school is now 90 percent complete. Structural shoring of the new gym is also underway.
The contractor is hoping to have the building completely closed in before January 1, 2021.

The renovations are part of the Board’s new vision for Catholic education in Chatham.  The new St. Angela Merici Catholic School, which opened on McNaughton Avenue, W. in September replaced Our Lady of Fatima, St. Vincent and St. Agnes.

The Board has also announced the purchase of land on Keil Drive for a new school in south Chatham to replace St. Ursula, Georges P. Vanier and the former St. Joseph.
