Holy Family Students Challenge Schools Across the District to Amazing Race Canada Reading Challenge

School teams from across the St. Clair district are trying to make their way along a 13,951 kilometer cross-Canada journey as part of the Amazing Race Canada Reading Challenge.

Holy Family Catholic School has challenged all schools in the district to participate.  The reading challenge was launched in February and wraps up at the end of March.

“The challenge is just one of our school’s initiatives in support of our Indigo Love of Reading grant application for 2021,” says Dan Rolo, Grade 7/8 teacher and organizer of the challenge.  “For every book a student reads during the 5 week challenge, they advance their school team approximately 10 kilometers along the journey.”

Teams will face bonus challenges and detours along the way.

The team that finishes first will win $1,000 worth of new books for their school, as well as a virtual visit by award-winning Canadian author Eric Walters.  All schools that participate will also receive a special discount on book purchase from Orca Book Publishers.

“The overall goal of the challenge is to engage students in reading, promote Canadian literature and provide some fun!” says Mr. Rolo.
