Expectations for the Return to Remote Learning Following the April Break

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Yesterday, in its efforts to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus – particularly the new variant strains – the Ontario government directed that all schools in the province will revert to Remote Learning following the April break.  At this time, there is no indication of how long schools will remain closed to in-person learning.

It is fortunate that we took the step prior to the break of sending home devices with those students who require it for Remote Learning at home.  Any families who do not have the technology needed to support student learning at home should contact their school on Monday.

Beginning on Monday, April 19, teachers will be organizing a brief synchronous learning period, beginning at the morning bell time.  At that time, students will be given direction for learning that they will be able to do on their own for the remainder of the day; and teachers will use this time to prepare for the days ahead.  Full synchronous learning will begin for all students on Tuesday, April 20.

Our staff will be reaching out to parents/guardians of students who have the highest needs, and who cannot be accommodated through online learning.

We all know too well the frustrations and challenges of online learning – we’ve been down this road before.  However, we must follow the course set by the Ministry, which is based on advice from Public Health Ontario.  Our staff is committed to supporting our students and families through the trials that lay ahead.  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work through these challenges together.

Wishing you God’s blessings for a restful remainder of the April break.

Keep well and stay safe,

Deb Crawford
Director of Education
