Scott Johnson Has Been Appointed to Serve as the Next Director of Education

Scott Johnson has been appointed to serve as the next Director of Education for the St. Clair Catholic District School Board.  The appointment was announced by John Van Heck, Chair of the Board at a Special Board Meeting on Tuesday, July 20, 2021.

Mr. Johnson, who is currently serving as Superintendent of Education for the Board, has been named to replace Director of Education Deb Crawford, who announced her retirement in March.

“Throughout his career, Scott has sought to help young people to identify their God-given gifts and to help them to strive to be their best,” says Mr. Van Heck.  “As a result of his tremendous breadth of experience and his proven leadership at St. Clair Catholic, Scott is well-positioned to lead the Board into the future.”

His teaching career began with the Halton Catholic District School Board in 1992 and in February 2005 he joined St. Clair Catholic as a secondary teacher.  He became a Vice Principal at the former St. Christopher Catholic Secondary School in 2008; and in 2011 he was appointed Principal at Holy Trinity Catholic School.  Scott was appointed Superintendent of Education in 2015.

As a member of the senior team, he has served in a number of capacities, helping to provide ongoing support and growth opportunities for all school leaders.  Scott has been instrumental in the development of a wide range of programs, including Alternative Education, School Within A College, High Risk co-operative education and Dual Credit programming.  He also led a team of staff who created the Head Start program, to provide transition supports for Grade 8 students prior to the entry of secondary school, resulting in a significant increase in student achievement in Grade 9.  He has also been instrumental in the development of important community partnerships, including Lambton College, St. Clair College and LiUNA Local 1089, which have provided new pathways planning opportunities for students and their families.

Scott is a parish member, Eucharistic Minister and Usher at Sacred Heart Parish in Sarnia.  He has served as a facilitator for the Bishop’s Task Force Sub Committee on Pastoral Care in Schools and a member of the Steering Committee for GR8TOBE CATHOLIC for the Diocese of London.

“I know that our entire staff and senior team join with me and my colleagues on the Board of Trustees in wishing Scott much continued success as he assumes this new role,” says Mr. Van Heck.

His appointment is effective October 1, 2021.
