Dear students and families,
CK Public Health, schools and school boards are working hard to make sure everyone returns to a safe school environment in September. By working together, we can reduce the number of cases of COVID-19 in our community and our school, as well as the possibility of school closures.
COVID-19 infection can have serious consequences for all age groups, including young people. Right now, the vaccination rates for Chatham-Kent’s youth aged 12 to 17 are the lowest in the province. The first day of school is less than six weeks away. Now is the time to get vaccinated.
To be fully vaccinated before school starts, students need two doses of the vaccine, at least 28 days apart. All students over the age of 12 who have not received the first dose should get one as soon as possible. Students who got the first dose at least 28 days ago should get a second dose now. It takes time to build immunity therefore, it is best to receive a second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine 10 to 14 days before the first day of school.
To make it as easy as possible, first and second-dose walk-in appointments are now available for Pfizer-BioNTech at the Bradley Centre. View upcoming clinics and locations here. Youth can also get vaccinated at pharmacies or through some family doctors.
CK Public Health is hosting pop-up clinics at local schools across Chatham-Kent throughout August. Students 12 to 17 can be vaccinated at any clinic, regardless of what school they attend. The first two school clinics will be:
- John McGregor Secondary School – Wednesday, August 4, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Tilbury District High School – Friday, August 6, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Additional school clinics will be announced soon.
