Members of the Board of Trustees got a sneak preview of the new Monsignor Uyen Catholic school this week. Chatham’s new home for French Immersion will be ready for students on the first day of school, Tuesday, September 7, 2021.
“The work that has been done at the new Monsignor Uyen is impressive,” says Deb Crawford, Director of Education. “Hats off to members of our Facility Services team who have done an amazing job with this project – it’s like a brand new facility!”
The $4.9 million project is being funded through the Board’s annual School Condition Improvement allocation and includes the following upgrades:
- A new main entrance and canopy with an atrium and main office and conference room renovations;
- A learning commons renovation and introduction of pod-style learning in the south corridor;
- Relocation of the staff room and teacher work room;
- An enlarged gymnasium with a drop down stage, new athletic flooring and new change rooms;
- A refresh of existing classrooms, with a complete replacement of flooring, new paint, new millwork, new tack boards and whiteboards, new classroom doors and window blinds;
- New hallway flooring throughout;
- New asphalt on the playground;
- Technology upgrades including – Epson interactive projectors in all classrooms; Chromebooks and device storage units in all classrooms; 86 inch interactive display panel mounted in the Collaborative Learning space; new audio/video system in the gym, which includes a large format projectors for presentations or digital scenery during theatrical events;
- An outdoor classroom.
“Next week staff will be in the school setting up classrooms and getting ready for our students,” says Laura Callaghan, Superintendent of Education. “These are exciting times for the Monsignor Uyen community!”
An opportunity for Monsignor Uyen families to tour the school is scheduled for Tuesday, August 31, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Families are required to register in advance.
