Flags at all St. Clair Catholic schools and the Catholic Education Centre will be lowered to half staff for the day on Thursday, September 30, 2021 in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
This first observance of National Truth and Reconciliation Day honours the lost children and survivors of residential schools, their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.
This federal statutory holiday was created through legislative amendments approved by Parliament, which received Royal Assent on June 3, 2021.
