St. Clair Catholic Celebrates ‘World Read Aloud Day’ with Virtual Guest Readers Across the District

World Read Aloud Day is observed annually in more than 173 countries around the world, as a celebration of books.  At St. Clair Catholic, 23 guest readers from across Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton connected virtually to classrooms to share their love of reading.

Our featured guest reader for the day was author Kathryn Otoshi, who read from her new book, Lunch Every Day.  Ms. Otoshi is an award-winning author, best known for her character-building number/colour book series: One, Zero, and Two.  Her books encourage children to develop strong character traits and help them to find creative methods to engage and connect with each other through the power of reading.

Other guest readers included Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff, Lambton College President & CEO Rob Kardas, Stony Point First Nation Elder Debbie Milliken, Métis author Rebekah Wilson, Chatham-Kent Police Chief Gary Conn, St. Clair Catholic District School Board Trustee Carol Bryden, and Director of Education Scott Johnson.

“It was exciting to celebrate World Read Aloud Day with our students,” says Laura Callaghan, Superintendent of Education.  “We extend a special thank you to our guest readers, who set aside time in their busy calendars to share their love of reading with our students.”
