St. Elizabeth Catholic School Opens Neighbourhood Food Pantry in Partnership with NoFrills Wallaceburg

The St. Elizabeth Catholic School community gathered on Saturday to officially open a neighbourhood food pantry, which is located adjacent to the NoFrills Wallaceburg parking lot.  The project is the work of Mrs. Clare Quinlan’s Grade 4/5 class, with lots of help from several community partners.

“I am so proud of our students, staff and families who came together to make this neighbourhood food pantry possible,” says Stacy Shepley, Principal of St. Elizabeth Catholic School.  “Through this project, and many others like it, our students are living their baptismal call to be the hands and feet of Christ in our community.”

The food pantry structure was built by Scott Mills, a parent at the school, with the Plexiglas donated by Scott Bowen of Glass Guru.  Mark Popieul, the owner/manager of NoFrills Wallaceburg consented to have the pantry erected on the grocery store property.  The project was funded through a Ministry of Education Experiential Learning grant.

The food pantry will be stocked by donations from the school and the community.
