BBQ Hot Dog Fundraiser Brings in $2,008 for Ukrainian Relief Effort

Students and staff at St. Patrick’s Catholic High School along with the St. Benedict Council #11164 of the Knights of Columbus bar-b-qued about 800 hot dogs today, to raise more than $2,000 for the relief effort in the Ukraine and to help support Ukrainian refugees arriving in Canada.

“This event has been a tremendous success,” says Father Dan Vere, Associate Pastor of the Sarnia Bluewater Roman Catholic Family of Parishes.  “Through the kind generosity of all who supported this fundraiser, we are able to assist the humanitarian relief effort, both in the Ukraine and those refugee families who are relocating to Canada.  I want to thank all of our partners for helping make this possible.”

The hot dogs were donated by the Wyoming Foodland and the buns were courtesy of Kyle’s No Frills at Indian and London Road in Sarnia.  Donations were also provided by the Sarnia Bluewater Roman Catholic Family of Parishes and the Catholic Women’s League of St. Michael Bright’s Grove.  Pop was being provided by the Catholic Women’s League of St. Joseph Sarnia and private individuals.

Half of the funds will be shared with Caritas, an agency which provides relief to families in the Ukraine; the other half will support Christian sponsors, who are helping Ukrainian refugees relocate to private homes in Canada.
