St. Angela Merici Students and Staff ‘Walk For Joc’

The St. Angela Merici Catholic School community recently held a fundraising walk for the McGlynn family, as they raise money to support the Princess Margaret Cancer Hospital in Toronto.

In 2020, Jocelyn McGlynn lost her brave battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.  Jocelyn was a former student and Student Trustee with the St. Clair Catholic District School Board.  Her brothers, Maxx and Zach followed in her footsteps, to also serve as Student Trustees, while attending Ursuline College.

All three members of the McGlynn family, have served as Student Trustees for the St. Clair Catholic District School Board.

In addition to the support from the St. Angela Merici community, and in honour of others whose loved ones are fighting cancer, and those who have lost the fight, the McGlynn family is spearheading other fundraising initiatives.  They organized a neighbourhood ride on May 14; and on June 11 and 12, they will participate in a bike ride from Toronto to Niagara Falls.  The family has already raised $25,000.

“We are riding in honour of our amazing daughter Jocelyn,” says Jacquelyn McGlynn, a music teacher with the Board.  “During her illness she was a selfless voice of advocacy, promoting awareness for blood cancers, sharing the importance of donating blood and encouraging all those who are eligible to join the stem cell registry.  We couldn’t be more proud!”

Joc’s commitment to raising awareness resulted in approximately 2,000 people joining the stem cell registry and numerous blood donor clinics.

“We are striving to continue Joc’s passion to conquer cancer during our lifetime,” says Mrs. McGlynn.
