St. Clair Catholic Donates Surplus Furniture to West African Schools

Surplus furniture from the former Monsignor Uyen Catholic School on Lark Street, and other schools across the district, is on its way to schools in Sierra Leone.

The desks, tables and chairs were loaded onto a transport truck by volunteers from Canadian Food For Children – Chatham-Kent (CFFC-CK).  It will be shipped to the organization’s warehouse in Mississauga, and from there it will be loaded onto a container ship headed for the west African nation.

If there is any furniture remaining, it will be loaded aboard another container ship set to sail for Angola in South Africa later next week.

“We are so very grateful to St. Clair Catholic for this donation,” says Cindy Waddick, President of CFFC-CK.  “It is a tremendous gift, that will be welcomed by students and teachers at schools in parts of the world where classrooms are not well-equipped.”

Earlier this year, surplus furniture from Ursuline College was shipped to Angola.  The photos below show the arrival of the chairs and tables and students who will be using them.
