Kindergarten to Grade 12 students across the St. Clair Catholic District School Board had opportunities for land-based learning, in connection with First Nations partners in sugar bushes on the Bkejwanong Territory Walpole Island and Aamjiwnaang First Nations.
Students experienced the process of tapping the maple trees and the tradition of celebrating the gifts of the sugar bush in song, stories and tasting!
In addition, Primary students participated in Anishinaabemowin nature walks; Junior students learned the science and process of maple syrup production; and secondary school youth connected with medicine walks through the sugar bush.
