Flags at the Catholic Education Centre and All St. Clair Catholic Schools Lowered in Observance of Red Dress Day

Flags at the Catholic Education Centre and all schools are lowered today in observance of Red Dress Day, May 5, 2023.

The day honours the thousands of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, 2 spirit and gender diverse people in Canada, by encouraging learning and building awareness.

Throughout this week, students in Grades 7 to 12 have engaged in Art for Action.  Under the guidance of Anishinaabe artist Moses Lunham, Kettle and Stony Point First Nation and Shannon Paul, Anishinaabe from Treaty 3, Northwest Angle #33 in Lake of the Woods, students will explore how art can be a powerful tool to bring awareness to this ongoing issue.

More information is available in Reclaiming Power and Place: the Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and on the St. Clair Catholic District School Board website here.
