Board of Trustees Updated on Capital Projects in Port Lambton, Chatham and Sarnia

The Board of Trustees received a report at last night’s Regular Meeting regarding the capital projects currently underway in Chatham, Sarnia and Port Lambton.

The report includes a progress report for the new south Chatham Catholic elementary school, the new Gregory A. Hogan Catholic School and the project at Sacred Heart Port Lambton, for the addition of 46 pupil places and a three-room childcare.  The report also included timelines for completion for each of the projects.

Sacred Heart Catholic School, Port Lambton

Aveiro Constructors Limited of Dorchester, Ontario began work on July 22, 2022.  The project is on schedule, with completed work to date including foundations and slab on grade pours; exterior steel studs and fiberglass sheathing; interior steel studs; structural steel and metal roof deck; and window frames and glazing.  Work currently in progress includes exterior spray foam insulation; interior partition wall insulation; exterior masonry block; roofing system; mechanical and electrical rough-ins; and fire protection system.  Still to be completed are doors and hardware; drywall and taping; site work and parking lot; acoustical ceilings; flooring; painting; mechanical equipment, plumbing fixtures and electrical systems; and millwork.  Classroom furniture and IS equipment is also yet to be finalized.

As of April 30, 2023 the project was 59 percent complete.  The classroom addition and renovation are scheduled to be completed by the end of August 2023, ready for student occupancy following the summer break in September 2023.

The childcare is expected to be completed by October 2023, with licensing by Sombra Township in December 2023.

New South Chatham Catholic Elementary School

Construction of the new south Chatham Catholic elementary school reached the 40 percent completion mark on April 30, 2023.

Norlon Builders of London, Ontario is the general contractor on this project.  The construction forecast schedule anticipates the building will be substantially completed by February 2024 and that the new school will be ready for students to attend following the summer break in September 2024.

New Gregory A. Hogan Catholic School

The general contractor for the new Gregory A. Hogan Catholic School project is Wellington Builders of Forest, Ontario.  The project surpassed the 40 percent mark for completion on April 30, 2023.

The building is forecast to reach substantial completion by December 2023 and is expected to be open to students sometime early in the New Year.  Some areas of the building may still require work to bring it to full completion, which is scheduled for September 2024.
