St. Clair Catholic’s Summer Learning Camps wrapped up following three weeks of educational, social and emotional learning and spiritual development in July. About 140 elementary students participated in the camps at four locations – St. Angela Merici, Chatham; Holy Family, Wallaceburg; St. Joseph, Corunna; and Holy Trinity, Sarnia.
“Each year, this summer experience is a tremendous opportunity for growth for our students,” says Scott Johnson, Director of Education. “Our dedicated staff works to deliver a diverse program with academic, faith and wellbeing components.”
Throughout the three-week program, in addition to building capacity in literacy and numeracy, students learned to understand and name their emotions through self-awareness, working directly with staff from St. Clair Catholic’s Student Support and Wellbeing Team.
Campers also took part in daily prayer and Christian meditation. Community partners, including members of the local Indigenous communities, also participated in the learning experiences for our students. In addition, fun trips and activities were planned in the community, such as blueberry picking and bowling.
“Besides offering my thanks to our awesome staff, I also want to say a special word of appreciation to our friends at Noelle’s Gift and the Chatham-Kent Ontario Student Nutrition Program, for the funding to provide healthy and nutritious snacks at each of our camp locations,” says Mr. Johnson.
“Well done campers and staff!”
