St. Patrick’s Leadership Students Reflect on Success of Special Olympics Basketball Tournament

In December, students in the St. Patrick’s Grade 12 Business Leadership and Management class organized and hosted a Special Olympics basketball tournament.  Since then, they have been reflecting on the success of the day, and what they learned from the event.

At a presentation in January, the students outlined the goals and objectives for the day, covering all aspects of the tournament, including promotion, registration and staffing, the opening ceremonies, food concessions and coaching.

Eighty-nine athletes from seven schools across Sarnia-Lambton and Chatham-Kent participated.

“This was a superb event,” Director of Education Scott Johnson told the students.  “Your presentation today shows that you not only planned the event well, but that you were able to rise to the challenge and problem-solve when the unexpected happened.  Through teamwork, you provided an awesome experience for the special athletes who attended.  Well done!”

The leadership class is hoping to partner with Special Olympics Ontario on future events.
