Flags at the Catholic Education Centre and All St. Clair Catholic Schools Lowered in Observance of Red Dress Day

Flags at the Catholic Education Centre and all schools will be lowered on Friday, May 3 in observance of Red Dress Day, which occurs each year in Canada on May 5.

The day honours the thousands of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, 2 spirit and gender diverse people in Canada, by encouraging learning and building awareness.

Through learning, we contribute towards reconciliation and consider ways to create change. Find out more about the Red Dress Project with Métis artist Jaime Black. Art and visual representations are powerful tools to bring awareness to this ongoing crisis. Students use art and visual representations as a call to action, as students grow into responsible citizens giving witness to Catholic social teachings by promoting peace, justice and the sacredness of human life.

On Friday, May 3, youth will participate in a flag raising at the Civic Centre in Chatham.
