Record-Breaking Year for OECTA’s Dress Down for Wheels Fundraiser

A heartfelt thank you goes to the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) for spearheading this year’s exceptional Dress Down for Wheels fundraiser, which saw an unprecedented level of support across the district.

“This is our fourth year for Dress Down for Wheels, and it keeps getting bigger and better,” says Chad Coene, President OECTA Secondary – St. Clair Unit. “It’s an incredibly meaningful fundraiser and seeing the joy on the kids’ faces makes it all worthwhile!”

The initiative raised over $9,000, setting a new record. This incredible generosity allowed the purchase of 46 bikes, along with helmets and bicycle locks, all of which were distributed to students who previously did not own a bicycle.

“The kindness and support from our staff continue to inspire us every year,” says Wayne Bechard, President, OECTA Elementary – St. Clair Unit. “A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to this wonderful event!”

“Let me express my sincere appreciation to our valued OECTA partners for their outstanding leadership and extend a warm thank you to our dedicated staff for their enthusiastic support,” says Scott Johnson, Director of Education. “This initiative represents a remarkable gift, fostering not only physical activity but also overall wellness among our students.”

The bikes were delivered to students during Catholic Education Week (May 6 – May 10).
