At St. Peter Canisius Catholic School, Mrs. Sonneveld’s and Mr. DeRush’s Grade 7/8 classes recently organized a successful food-raising competition to support the Watford food bank. This challenge aimed to replenish the food bank’s stock of non-perishable food items and crucial supplies, particularly important as food banks often face shortages during the summer months.
Erin Moffat, Principal at St. Peter Canisius Catholic School, praised the students’ initiative, saying, “This event embodies our school’s commitment to compassion and community service.”
The enthusiastic response from students and staff highlighted the event’s impact. Mrs. Sonneveld noted the students’ eagerness to contribute, describing the competition as both charitable and transformative.
The food bank staff expressed deep gratitude for the well-timed donation, which significantly restocked their shelves. Consideration is now being given to making this an annual tradition at St. Peter Canisius Catholic School, which would promise ongoing support for the Watford food bank while fostering empathy among students.
As we celebrate this year’s success, we recognize the powerful impact of small acts of kindness. Mrs. Sonneveld’s Grade 7/8 classes have set an inspiring example of how compassion can unite to create meaningful change.
