UCC Hosts Record-Breaking Regional Elementary School Track and Field Meet

On June 5th, Ursuline College Chatham (UCC) graciously hosted St. Clair Catholic students from across Chatham-Kent in a regional elementary school track and field meet. Over 500 student competitors participated in events including the open race, long jump, triple jump, short jump, running races, and shot put. A new highlight this year was the high jump training and competition, completed on separate days for interested athletes by UCC track and field coach Steve Whyte.

The meet fostered a spirit of community and sportsmanship, with students cheering each other on and celebrating one another’s achievements. Staff, volunteers, and parents gathered to support and celebrate the young athletes. One of the day’s highpoints was athletes from three different schools breaking five records.

“It was amazing! The weather couldn’t have been better, and I know everyone had a fantastic day together,” said Jen Chickowski, an Early Childhood Educator at Georges P. Vanier.

“Everyone has worked incredibly hard to make this event a reality,” remarked Americo Todino, Principal at Monsignor Uyen Catholic School. “Seeing the event come together and watching students compete and succeed is fantastic.”

The meet was a tremendous success, setting a high standard for future track and field events. The UCC Track and Field team were excellent mentors and role models as they assisted teachers at each event. Students and coaches are already eager for their next opportunity to compete and set new records. Congratulations to all staff, volunteers, and participants for making the day truly memorable.
