Director of Education Scott Johnson Announces Retirement After 33 Years of Service

Scott Johnson, Director of Education for St. Clair Catholic District School Board, has announced his intention to retire at the end of March 2025, concluding a distinguished career spanning 33 years.

“I am so grateful to have worked with dedicated Catholic educators and support staff who care so deeply for our students. I have witnessed love, compassion, professionalism, and inclusivity in every one of our schools,” said Mr. Johnson.

He also expressed his gratitude to the Board of Trustees for their steadfast support. “A sincere thank you to the Chair, Vice Chair, and the Board of Trustees for their unwavering commitment. I am grateful to them for entrusting me with the privilege and honour of serving as the Director of Education. I know they will be guided by wisdom and faith as they select a new Director for this outstanding and thriving Catholic school system.”

Mr. Johnson began his career as an elementary teacher with the Halton Catholic District School Board in 1992. In 2005, he and his family relocated to Sarnia, where he joined St. Clair Catholic District School Board. Over the years, Mr. Johnson has held various roles, including elementary and secondary teacher, student success teacher, behavioral resource teacher, secondary vice-principal, elementary principal, and superintendent of education. He assumed the role of Director in 2021.

At the provincial level, Mr. Johnson has been a mentor, adjudicator, and guest speaker for the Ontario Catholic Supervisory Officers’ Association. Locally, he has served on several boards, including the Sarnia Lambton Workforce Development Board, the Chatham-Kent Community Leaders’ Alliance, and the Sarnia Lambton Immigration Task Force. He has also contributed to the Diocese of London, serving on the Bishop’s Task Force Subcommittee on Pastoral Care in Schools, the Steering Committee for GR8TOBE CATHOLIC, and most recently, the Bishop’s Task Force on Vocations.

Mr. Johnson’s greatest accomplishment, however, is his family. Together with his wife of 30 years, Tamara, they have raised three wonderful adult children who are now making their own contributions to the community in education, engineering technology, and policing.

John Van Heck, Chair of the Board, remarked, “Scott Johnson’s leadership has been a true blessing to our Catholic school community. His unwavering commitment to faith, education, and the well-being of our students has left an indelible mark on all of us. We wish him all the best as he enters this new chapter of life, and we are grateful for the legacy he leaves behind.”
