On September 17, 2024, St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School opened its doors to the community for a well-attended Open House from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. The event welcomed hundreds of parents, students, and community members, who toured the school, connecting with staff and exploring the innovative new spaces.
Children eagerly led their parents through the spacious hallways, pointing out their classrooms and proudly introducing their teachers. In the gymnasium, students excitedly showcased the large, modern space while the upstairs Learning Commons and Collaborative Learning Spaces buzzed with energy.
Many parents expressed excitement about the new facility. “It was a long-awaited opportunity to welcome the community to our wonderful new school,” said Superintendent Lisa Demers. “It was fantastic seeing students proudly show their parents around the space.”
Principal Sara Vadovic added, “The smiles say it all. Staff and students have thrived during the first two weeks of school, and we are all looking forward to an incredible first year together.”
The event also featured several community partners, including Robyn Forster, Settlement Advisor with the SWIS program, who provided valuable support and information to newcomer families. Ali Chinnick, Pastoral Minister with the Chatham Catholic Family of Parishes, was on hand to speak with parents about sacramental preparation. At the same time, Child and Youth Workers who teach the Mind-Up program shared resources on social-emotional learning from School Mental Health Ontario.
The Open House was a true celebration of community spirit and school pride. As families explored the vibrant new facility, the excitement was palpable. The event highlighted the strong connections being forged between the school and its community, setting the stage for a promising and impactful year ahead.
