St. Clair Catholic proudly launched the Ezhi Kendmang Anishnaabe Naadziwin (EKAN): Sharing the Knowledge of the People series, a transformative three-part land-based adult learning program. This initiative, developed in partnership with local Elders and Knowledge Keepers, aims to deepen understanding of Anishinabek culture, enhance self-awareness, and strengthen skills for anyone working with Anishinabek youth.
The series brings together St. Clair Catholic staff, staff from local Nations, and local community members to engage in interactive learning experiences. Participants will benefit from the first hand learning from Elders and Knowledge Keepers from Aamjiwnaang First Nation, Bkejwanong Territory, and Kettle and Stony Point First Nation.
One participant shared, “I loved the interactive nature of the course. There were easy access points for entry, and regardless of where a person was in their journey of learning, they could engage in each session.” Another noted, “This connects directly with education. I have more knowledge and understanding, so now what? I have deepened my understanding and want to continue my learning in all areas.” A third participant emphasized, “Being part of this learning truly makes me an authentic educator.”
The EKAN series not only supports personal growth but also reinforces the importance of cultural understanding within educational settings. As participants embark on this journey, they are equipped to make meaningful connections with Anishinabek youth, fostering an environment of respect and inclusivity.
