This year, St. Clair Catholic welcomed 29 new permanent teachers into a wide range of teaching assignments, from elementary classrooms in French Immersion and English schools to secondary mathematics, science, and itinerant music. As part of their introduction to the Board, these new teachers participated in the New Teacher Induction Program (NTIP), a full-day orientation designed to set them up for success in the early stages of their careers.
The orientation was held in two sessions, with half of the participants attending on October 1 and the other half on October 4. The day provided an opportunity for new teachers to ask questions, engage with program staff, and deepen their understanding of the board’s teaching culture. Topics covered included developing mentor relationships with experienced colleagues, creating inclusive classrooms, understanding privacy protocols, and embedding Indigenous teachings into the curriculum.
“Our new teachers receive support at all levels,” said Renee VanDamme Marcus, Catholic Curriculum Consultant. “It begins with their principals and extends to program staff in our curriculum, special education, and mental health and wellbeing departments. At St. Clair Catholic, we are committed to providing the resources and mentorship that promote lifelong professional learning. The goals of the NTIP program are to build efficacy, confidence, strong teaching practices, and a commitment to continuous professional learning. Ultimately, our students benefit from our passionate and confident teachers.”
Through NTIP, St. Clair Catholic ensures that its newest educators are equipped with the knowledge and support they need to foster success for their students and growth in their professional journeys.
