UCC Hairstyling & Aesthetics Students Bring Spa Day to St. Angela’s Meadow Retirement Lodge

On October 9, the Grade 12 Hairstyling & Aesthetics class from UCC brought a day of relaxation and care to the residents of St. Angela’s Meadow Retirement Lodge with a special Spa Day. The students offered manicures, arm massages, and paraffin wax treatments, creating a memorable experience for both the residents and themselves.

The event allowed students to practice and enhance their salon skills while also engaging in meaningful community service. The residents expressed their gratitude by sharing a heartfelt thank you card and poem, recognizing the students’ kindness and care.

MaryLynne Seliga, UCC Teacher, spoke about the valuable experience gained through the program: “This opportunity allows our students to apply the skills they learn in class in a real-world setting. Providing their services to the residents not only sharpens their technical abilities but also teaches them the importance of connecting with others and offering something meaningful to the community.”

The success of the day has already inspired plans for a “Spa Christmas Day” in December, where the students will return to offer more treatments to the residents.

Scott Johnson, Director of Education for St. Clair Catholic, emphasized the broader impact of the initiative: “Our students are not just learning technical skills, they are learning how to make a difference in the lives of others. This partnership is a powerful reminder of how education can extend beyond the classroom, instilling values of compassion, service, and leadership that will resonate long after graduation.”

This meaningful collaboration between UCC and St. Angela’s Meadow demonstrates how community service enriches student learning while creating a lasting positive impact on those they serve.
