Faith in Action: Feast Day Celebrations at St. Clair Catholic Schools

Students and staff across St. Clair Catholic have celebrated the Feast Days of their patron saints with meaningful activities that reflect their virtues and enduring legacies.

On November 17, students at St. Elizabeth Catholic School in Wallaceburg marked the Feast Day of St. Elizabeth of Hungary. Known for her compassion and dedication to the poor, St. Elizabeth’s legacy inspired a meaningful act of charity. The following day, Mrs. Quinlan’s Grade 4/5 class, along with Mrs. Lalonde and Mrs. Mitchell’s FDK class, walked to the food pantry at No Frills to leave donations for those in need. The activity connected the students with their namesake’s mission of caring for the vulnerable.

“Our students learn about St. Elizabeth not just through stories but by living out her values,” said Mike Giroux, Principal at St. Elizabeth. “The Feast Day gives us a chance to model her compassion and generosity in a way that makes a difference in our community.”

In September, St. Michael, Ridgetown celebrated the Feast Day of St. Michael the Archangel, their patron saint. The school community gathered on September 27 for a day of prayer and creative activities, focusing on St. Michael’s virtues of courage, faith, and protection.

The day began with a prayer service in the gym, reflecting on the story of St. Michael’s triumph over evil as recounted in the Book of Revelation. Students then created lantern crafts inscribed with the message “Jesus is the Guiding Light,” reinforcing themes of spiritual protection and guidance.

“St. Michael’s Feast Day is a cherished celebration for our school,” said Kelly VanBoxtel, Principal at St. Michael. “It gives us an opportunity to come together as a community, reflect on the courage of St. Michael, and celebrate the light of Christ in our lives.”

Through these Feast Day celebrations, students at St. Clair Catholic schools were reminded of the values of their patron saints and how those values can guide their lives.
