The St. Angela Merici choir, known as the Sammies, took to the ice on Tuesday, February 4th, delivering a powerful performance of O Canada at the All-Star Game at St. Clair College’s Thames Campus Arena in Chatham. Dressed in school spirit wear and hockey jerseys, the students set the tone early, filling the arena corridor with their favourite school songs as fans arrived.
As game time approached, the Sammies were led alongside the ice and onto the benches, forming their choir under the bright arena lights. Following the ceremonial puck drop, Music Specialist and Choir Director Jacquelyn McGlynn stepped onto the ice and cued the students, who filled the arena with their voices. A group of students, positioned in the penalty box, signed the anthem’s lyrics, creating a moving moment for the crowd.
“Hearing our students’ voices rise through the arena was absolutely beautiful,” said Principal Juli Faubert. “Their confidence and teamwork were on full display, and I couldn’t be prouder of how they represented our St. Angela Merici family.”
McGlynn, who leads the choir through multiple rehearsals each week, was thrilled with their performance. “Their voices were strong, their timing was perfect, and they poured their hearts into it. This group has worked hard to come together as a choir, and tonight, that really showed.”
With voices raised and hands signing in unison, the Sammies delivered a memorable performance that was met with enthusiastic applause.
