With a new semester underway, students across St. Clair Catholic are stepping into hands-on learning experiences through co-op placements—many in the skilled trades. Thanks to partnerships with employers in a wide range of industries, students gain real-world experience while earning credits toward graduation, and a paycheck!

About 35% of St. Clair Catholic’s co-op placements are in the skilled trades, offering students a direct pathway to financial stability and long-term employment. Those working in one of Ontario’s 144 recognized skilled trades can register as OYAP participants, tracking their apprenticeship progress with the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training, and Skills Development. Students looking to continue in the trades can take it a step further by signing a Registered Training Agreement (TA), which helps them transition seamlessly into full-time work after graduation.

New this fall, the Focused Apprenticeship Skills Training (FAST) program rewards students who complete at least eight co-op credits—equivalent to 800+ hours of workplace training—with a Blue Seal on their diploma. This experience level is equivalent to two full semesters of schoolwork, giving students a significant head start in their careers.

With the new FAST program, students graduate ready to step into high-demand, well-paying careers.”
