Catholic Education Week Message from the Director of Education

As we begin Catholic Education Week, we are reminded of the beauty and strength of our shared journey in faith. This year’s theme, Catholic Education: Pilgrims of Hope, calls us to walk together with courage, purpose, and trust in God’s promise—even in the face of uncertainty. In our schools, we witness daily the light of hope shining through acts of kindness, learning, and prayer.

Today also marks Red Dress Day, the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2-Spirit People. As a Catholic community, we are called to remember these lives with compassion and resolve, and to honour truth and reconciliation through our actions. We hold space in our hearts for families and communities impacted by this profound loss and commit to walking the path of justice with them.

This week is also Mental Health Week in Canada, and the Canadian Mental Health Association invites us to reflect deeply on what lies beneath the surface. Under the theme Unmasking Mental Health, we are reminded of the importance of being open, vulnerable, and connected. In our classrooms, staff rooms and board offices, we are committed to creating spaces where every person feels seen, supported, and safe to speak their truth.

Though each of these observances is distinct, they are powerfully connected through their shared call to compassion, understanding, and the dignity of every human person. Catholic education leads us not only to academic excellence, but to a deeper encounter with one another and with Christ—who walks with the grieving, lifts the weary, and offers hope to all.

May we continue our pilgrimage with open hearts, guided by faith, moved by love, and united in hope.

With gratitude,

Lisa Demers
