On Wednesday, April 23rd, students at St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School rolled up their sleeves and picked up shovels for an exciting hands-on experience—planting 36 new trees on the school grounds.

The tree planting initiative was more than just an environmental project—it was a celebration of community spirit and care for creation. Students, staff, and volunteers gathered following the lunch recess to welcome the tree planting team, who provided all the necessary supplies along with an educational presentation about the benefits of trees. The school was also presented with a commemorative plaque and educational materials to display proudly throughout the building.
Junior and intermediate students were invited to take part in the planting process, helping to dig holes, place trees, and water them in. Their efforts will leave a lasting legacy, as these trees will not only offer natural shade for students but also beautify the school grounds and contribute positively to the environment for years to come.
“As a brand new school community, it means so much to watch something take root—literally and figuratively—on our grounds,” said Alishia Thompson, Vice Principal. “These trees will grow alongside our students. Years from now, they’ll serve as living reminders of the early days of our school and everything we’ve built together.”

Staff and students alike were energized by the shared purpose of the day. “There was such a joyful energy,” said Mikayla Barnwell, School Support Secretary. “You could see how proud the students were to be part of it. These trees are more than just additions to the landscape—they’re a shared responsibility and a source of joy for our whole community.”
The event highlighted the importance of sustainability and teamwork. As the trees grow, so too will the sense of pride in what the school community planted—together.
