Sacred Heart Says Goodbye with an Unforgettable Open House & School Closing Celebration

It was a homecoming to remember at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Sarnia, as more than 500 former students, staff, and families gathered at the school’s current location for the Open House & School Closing Celebration. Long before the doors opened, a line had already formed around the building — a clear sign of how much this school has meant to generations of families.

Once inside, the halls quickly flooded with visitors eager to revisit their classrooms and reconnect with old friends. Yearbooks, photos, and jerseys from decades past lined the walls, creating a powerful walk down memory lane that brought back laughter, hugs, and even a few happy tears.

The gym came alive with the energy of celebration. Photo booths, memorabilia, and displays offered guests a chance to reflect, take pictures, and relive treasured memories. One former student made the trip from Vancouver to attend, while other alumni from the 1950s marveled at how much the school had grown since their time at Sacred Heart.

“The outpouring of support from our community has been incredible,” said Tina Jarvis, Principal of Sacred Heart. “It’s bittersweet to gather here one last time, but we are so grateful for everything this building has given us. We’re excited for the future and for what’s to come for our students and staff when we move to our new location later this year.”

It was a celebration of the past and the lasting spirit that makes Sacred Heart so special.

“This school has always been more than just a building — it’s a family,” said Lisa Demers, Director of Education. “To see everyone come together like this is truly a blessing. What a gift to celebrate both the legacy and the future of this incredible community.”

As Sacred Heart prepares to close its doors, it does so with pride, love, and the unwavering spirit of the 49ers — still strong, still united, and ready for the next chapter.
