Excitement and joy filled the Catholic community in Sarnia as students, staff, and families of Sacred Heart Catholic School officially moved into their new building on Hogan Drive. After nearly a year and a half of anticipation and hard work, the vision of a larger, brighter, modern, faith-filled learning environment has become a reality.
This move marks the conclusion of another major construction project by the St. Clair Catholic District School Board, creating a welcoming and innovative space that supports 21st-century learning and reflects the values of the Catholic faith for the Sarnia community.
Among the many highlights of the new facility:
- A 3,634 sq. ft. gymnasium, complete with a retractable stage, integrated audio/video system, and glass basketball backboards — a versatile space for assemblies, liturgies, athletic events, and community gatherings
- 4,886 sq. ft. of newly renovated interior space, including a modern Learning Commons built for collaboration and creativity
- A bright, light-filled foyer welcoming all who enter
- A large outdoor play area designed to encourage active play and fun for students of all ages
“Seeing students explore their new classrooms for the first time reminds us why we do this work,” says Lisa Demers, Director of Education. “The new Sacred Heart is a place where faith and learning come alive every day.”
The first day of school was filled with smiles and wonder as students explored their new home. Teachers and staff welcomed families warmly, ensuring the transition was filled with care and community spirit.
To honour this milestone, a school blessing and opening ceremony was held on September 10, 2025, with Bishop Ronald Fabbro, clergy from across the St. Clair Catholic district, civic and provincial dignitaries, community members, school board staff and students in attendance. The event signified not only the completion of the building, but also the beginning of a new chapter in Catholic education for the Sarnia community.
A special thank you goes to Lila Anning and Jack Chartrand, Grade 8 students at Sacred Heart and the St. Clair Action News team for their creativity and dedication in keeping the community informed and inspired throughout this incredible transformation.
