Students, staff and parents recently volunteered their time to plant $10,000 in trees, thanks to a partnership with DeGroot’s Nursery in Sarnia. The project was funded by a grant through the Tomorrow’s Greener Schools Today (TGST) initiative.

“This fantastic opportunity not only helps promote environmental stewardship, it also beautifies our school grounds by providing much-needed areas of shade,” says Janine Ross, Vice Principal, Gregory A. Hogan Catholic School.
Tree coverage in Lambton County is currently about half the recommended level for a healthy environment. Since 2018, through the TGST program and in partnership with Lambton Public Health and St. Clair Conservation, more than 260 trees have been planted at 29 Lambton County schools, an important step in helping to reduce the impacts of climate change.
