The Board of Trustees for St. Clair Catholic has approved the sale of the former St. Ursula Catholic School to the Municipality of Chatham-Kent for $1,699,999. The sale of the property, at the corner of Tweedsmuir and Lacroix in Chatham, was approved at a Special Meeting of the Board this afternoon.
The purchase was approved by Municipal Council at its meeting of Monday, November 17, 2025.
“I want to thank Associate Director Amy Park and her team for their great work, as we continue to reduce our inventory of surplus properties,” says John Van Heck, Chair of the Board.
“The ongoing reduction of the Board’s inventory of surplus buildings and lands is a demonstration of our commitment to the wise, ethical and responsible use of our resources,” says Lisa Demers, Director of Education.
The sale was completed pursuant to the provisions of Ontario Regulation 374/23.
The sale leaves the former Georges P. Vanier Catholic School as the Board’s single remaining surplus property, following the reorganization of Catholic education in Chatham. The restructuring resulted in the opening of two brand new schools – St. Angela Merici in 2020 and St. Teresa of Calcutta in 2024 – and the closing and sale of the former Monsignor Uyen on Lark; St. Vincent on McNaughton East;
St. Agnes on Croydon; and St. Joseph on Raleigh. The former Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School was refurbished and reopened as the new Monsignor Uyen in 2021.
